- RAM: 4 GB minimum
- Disk Space: 200 MB for installation + space for your data
- Display: 1280x720 minimum resolution
- Internet: Not required (offline-first software)

Installation Steps
- Download the installer file (BusinessLedger-Setup-2.0.0.exe)
- Run the installer — Windows may show a security warning (see below)
- Follow the prompts — Accept the license, choose install location
- Launch Business Ledger from your desktop or Start menu
- Enter your license key in Settings → License
⚠️ Windows Security Warning
Because our software is new, Windows may show "Windows protected your PC" warning. This is normal for software from small developers.
To proceed:
- Click "More info"
- Click "Run anyway"
The software is safe — we just haven't purchased an expensive code signing certificate yet.
Activating Your License
- Open Business Ledger
- Go to Settings tab
- Find the License section
- Enter your license key (format: BLDGR-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX)
- Enter your email address
- Click Activate License
You should see: "License activated! Tier: STANDARD" (or PROFESSIONAL / ENTERPRISE)

Professional and Enterprise licenses include the Mobile Companion app for Android. Check your purchase email for the download link.

- Syncs with desktop via USB cable (no cloud)
Mobile App Installation
- Download the APK file from your purchase email on your Android phone
- Tap to install — If prompted, enable "Install from unknown sources"
- Open the app — You'll see "Waiting for setup..."
- Connect to desktop — See sync instructions below
Setting Up Mobile Sync
- On your desktop, go to Settings → Mobile Companion
- Connect your Android phone via USB cable
- On your phone, select "File Transfer" (MTP) mode when prompted
- Click "Setup Mobile Companion" on desktop
- Create a 4-6 digit PIN for the mobile app
- Wait for sync to complete
- On your phone, open the app and enter your PIN
Daily Syncing
To sync new data or import check-ins done on mobile:
- Connect your phone via USB
- Go to Settings → Mobile Companion
- Click "Sync Now"
This pushes fresh data to mobile and imports any check-ins you did on the phone.
Why USB sync? Your customer data never touches the internet. No cloud accounts, no data breaches, no subscription fees. Just plug in and sync — like the old days, but better.
Where Is My Data Stored?
By default, Business Ledger stores your data in:
C:\Users\[YourName]\OneDrive\BusinessLedger\
This folder contains:
businessledger.db — Your main database
backups/ — Automatic backup files
invoices/ — Generated PDF invoices
logs/ — Application logs (for troubleshooting)
Tip: If you use OneDrive, your data is automatically synced to the cloud as a backup!
First-Time Setup
- Set up your PIN — You'll be prompted to create a 4-6 digit PIN for security
- Save your Recovery Code — Write this down! It's the only way to recover access if you forget your PIN
- Enter your business info — Go to Settings and fill in your business details
- Create a backup — Go to Settings → Backup Now
